When you first sign up you will automatically be able to make friends and participate in trades! I suggest you get very familiar with the site first and avoid trading until a safe user base can be established. The site is very new and unfortunately there are users who may take advantage of the inexperienced. Click your PDA – select Options (the picture that looks like gears) – select ‘Block trades.’ I also ‘Block Whispers’ since they have come up while playing a game and they get in the way.

There’s a NEW WAY they are scamming!Even though you can only put $1000 in the trade — if they click accept multiple times really fast — it multiplies the number of clicks x the bear bills offered!
If you give someone $1000 and they click accept three times before it registers that they’ve clicked accept — it will give them $3000!
If they click LOTS of times…. well, you get the idea!
BE WARY WHEN TRADING UNTIL THIS BUG IS FIXED! There isn’t ANYTHING you can do about it if they click accept a bunch of times! (Other than email help.)
- Be sure and check this and delete what they add or just cancel the trade if you’re uncomfortable or not sure!
- Another way some members are scamming: They will say hello to you when they get into a trade. That will cause the dialog box to cover up the money portion of the trade screen. They will then ask for a weird trade and will ask for all your money. You may not see that they are asking for all the money in your account! Fortunately the dialog box has been moved during the upgrade to Beta 2.10! Be careful still

Thanks Sammi, I have blocked them also. I opened up for trading this weekend for the Huggable Heroes hat. Some trades with others were nice, like this 1 who didn’t have anything and she just wanted to trade a shirt for a scarf and tote bag. That was a good experience but like I said in the top I now have trades and whispers blocked, it’s just so distracting.
I’d block them, but I am determined to get my necklace back
on trade they put the bearbills part up higher so nothing covers it
I’m so glad they changed this. I have had many players try to add high bear bill amounts to a trade. Each time It has happened I’ve blocked them with “ignore”. I’d thought about reporting them but I didn’t know if I should. What do you think?

She didn’t scam me, but she kept trying to trade me and I said no and closed trade requests, but she kept begging in whispers and then she started calling me stupid and loser because she had more money than me and because I wouldn’t trade.
If that wasn’t enough, then she said she reported me (Even though I didn’t do anything) and I reported her and she said she wouldn’t get in trouble because her sister’s boyfriend works for BABW and stuff and yeah -_- Just ugh.

Guys another name to the list…. BobAwesome24 tried to trade with me and she wanted to get all my money for her bear slippers. I said no and then she followed me arround and shouted that I tried to steal her money! Some people can take no for an answer…
I think one of the biggest issues is they have a “fair meter”. I know they mean well, but a lot of the time it confuses people and they think they’re getting a good deal with things that they may not be and a bad deal with what might be a good one, simple because rare items have a sell back value of “0”.
Oh yes, I completely agree with every last word, Jen/Rini/Emi. I’ve had several encounters with scammers where they’d place one object in the trade and try to get three 0-value rare items of mine for it. After all, the fair meter says the trade’s hugely unfair in my favor, right? Right? …

You’re right Jen, the fair meter doesn’t work very well sometimes. I think rare items shold have some value, so that they would know what to trade them for if they want to.
I actually wish there were a marketplace, some kind of system like the one Neopets or Gaia have set up. It would be a lot easier to determine ‘fair’ prices for rares that way – let the market sort it out on its own.

yeah, alot of times people (younger kids?) say that my tiger bag is worth 0 bearbills so it’s fair if they trade a pair of shoes or a necklace. In reality though, not many people have the tiger bag and you can only get the (orange) tiger build-a-bear from the “BAB at the Zoo” stores. Another thing is that if i have two of like the bear head slippers, people will ask if i will just give them to them, which i still don’t think is fair, even if i do have two, because they were limited edition?

squirt30 I completely agree with you. I’ve found less people wanting to trade lately and I think it is because they are leary of scammers. As you might recall this started out for my daugher and I’m the one that got hooked. When she plays I tell her not trade and I can block trades so no one can ask her but she can still initiate trades. She is only six so doesn’t completely get the concept of holding onto rare items and sometimes forgets to look if they are trying to get her bear bills. She loves to go on shopping sprees when she gets on. The other day she bought one of everything in the furniture store. Like that wasn’t bad enough, she bought it all in the blue default color which I think lowers the value because others make that mistake and have all blue furniture. Anyway, I only trade fair (unless I’m overpaying for something I couldn’t buy) and have been having trouble finding people who even want to trade. When someone does they usually have nothing to trade or are a scammer. Any suggestions on findng the players who enjoy trading when it is fair?

For what reason would someone have 8 or 10 duplicates of the same item? Is there a reward for having a full set of something? Just curious about those with so many 2008 glasses or Bearemy hats…

qmoon, I’ve got item duplicates like that because I’m saving them as trade bait for down the road. Christmas wasn’t that long ago, yet I am already amazed at the scarcity of bear ears hats/bear slippers… anyway, players who join later will want the items they missed, too.
I just made a storage mule today because I got tired of people trying to trade for things I didn’t want to trade off, and realized I could get the heart table with it too. So I did. XD I don’t know that I want to bother with a whole ARMY of mules to get event items. BABV is not Gaia, and I find it likely that event items will be reissued during their appropriate seasons next year. Then again, ya never know, right?… Eh, anyway. The more I think about it, I have to say I actually don’t have a problem with people making extra ‘mule’ accounts to get event items, because that means more of those items will (theoretically) be available for users who join after the event is done.
I’m not surprised about the bear slippers, just the hats, though I kind of understand the hats. Not everybody talks to all the NPCs and I doubt people would think he was handing out a new item for when Maxine came.
Plus, Maxine was hard to find, I managed to find her once out of pure luck
And even then, while I told my friends, only one was able to get on in time to get slippers before she left. Her appearance was random so it was definitely hard to et slippers. To be honest, I didn’t even know she was there, I was just walking around and then I got the alert with the slippers.
I thought I got my hat and slippers from Beremy, I think you set me straight on that in one of your first few posts. Now I’m realizing how lucky I was.
I never actually saw her until this past weekend, the night before Groundhogs day.

Another for the hall of shame: OliviaDiva66. She tried to do a small swap sightly in my favor and I almost missed that she was also asking for ALL my money. I told her she almost got me and she typed back “I’m good”. I cancelled the trade and then she asked to trade again and I said yes just out of curiosity and she did it again. I said “do you think I’m crazy”? and she said “yeah”. Ignore wasn’t an option when I clicked to her. I hope this is just a glitch.

She just asked for a pair of my 2008 glasses (when she already had a couple, so this right away made me suspicious)for a pair of high-heel shoes. she then started talking to me saying things like “I really want those so you better trade” or somthing along that line. then, when i was typing my reply, which was somthing along the line of “huh?” *lol* she managed to put all of my 50,000 bearbills into the trade. I closed the trade, figuring that she was one of many scammers. She followed me aroumd ank kept asking for a couple of minutes until i just “ignored” her. so yeah, watch out for her.
I think laurencuddles sort of scammed me. She wanted my funky reading glasses(read teddy item) but they were special so i siad no them i closed the trade but she kept whispering to me give me the glasses. :p

i felt like a pretty good person today.
going into a trade, i asked the person i was trading with if she would trade her maxine heart necklace (one of which i really want, and if i could of just joind BABV a few days sooner, i could of got one on my own >:C…but thats not the point lol)and she said yes, for my leopard hat. so i did the trade parting with my beloved leopard hat. i could tell she was going to miss the necklace, because she took a really long time to accept. then she said “bye necklace. I hope i’m making the right choice…”
a few moments later, after i partied because i had FINALLY gotten the necklace i wanted, she asked for a trade back. I felt bad, so i said sure, because she’s probably younger than me, and i could find someone else who would trade the necklace.

BEAR SLIPPER TRADE PROBLEM SOLVED:
I’ve had a problem for a while now where, like many other people, the Maxine Bear Slippers my avatar wore would come up in trades just as if I weren’t wearing them. I don’t know why that is – with almost anything else your avatar wears, the little white button in the upper right corner will be lit, and the item won’t be visible during trades. For bear slippers for most people, even if they’re wearing the slippers, the button stays unlit just as if they weren’t being worn!
Because of the unlit button, they come up in trades and 9 times out of 10, you can just guess what other people try to trade for (or scam for or beg for. Yeesh. lol)
Anyway, I got tired of it. I have already made an extra account as a storage ‘mule’ – she holds rare things I don’t want to trade, or extra duplicate items just to store them. I traded the bear slippers to her tonight just to store them. I didn’t realize my original avatar was wearing them at the time.
After the trade, the storage mule account had the slippers, but my original account was still wearing them (though they are not in her inventory any more, of course.)
In other words, I’ve found a way to wear bear slippers without having to deal with people trying to trade for them almost every time. I’m going to keep doing this until the no-white-button problem is fixed and I can have them on without having to say “the bear slippers are not for trade” in 9 trades out of ten… lol.

When it was her turn she added 15000 ( all my money) so I told her you want all my money too. She answerd just click the check mark. So I quite the trade and took her out of my friends list.

It does sound like she was trying to pressure you; she definitely did not handle the trade like an adult.
Anything is really only worth what the person who owns it thinks it is. That said, I would not trade any animal quest item for any three items sold in stores, not even the three most expensive items of all.
However, how much the eyepatch is worth depends entirely on you. To -me-, 15,000 doesn’t sound too far off – but to YOU, it might only be worth … whatever you think it’s worth, and that is just as valid and right.
I think the thing to do is decide how much money YOU think the eyepatch is worth (in bear bills and items) and try to find someone who will trade it for that amount.
I have had more than a few 10,000+ bear bill offers on animal quest items of my own and I have turned them all down because the items are worth far more to me.
To close your condo, go to Neighborhood and click on Options on the menu that pops up.
As for chaging eye color – I want to be able to do that, too – my eyes are bright purple! Oy! At least we can wear sunglasses.

I do have a funny story about trading though. This one person named JennyBearHug1 tried to trade me her newspaper for my gem tiara (which I ended up trading in another trade for my turtle hat yay!)She tried to make me feel guilty that her friend was in the hospital and she wanted to give her the tiara as a gift and that the newspaper took you to special places and gave you free clothes. Sure it does…. I just walked away. She called me heartless but I don’t believe her story because a dying friend wouldn’t want a virtual tiara. Go spend some time with her gosh!

They have changed the trading now, so you can only add up to 1000 bear bills, which makes it safer but now you can’t really trade rare items, I used to trade my rare items or trade for them for around 40,000 bear bills which I thought was fair.
When I was first in build a bearville I traded my dino slippers for canvas shoes! I soon learnt and was about to trade for them off someone else.

But after we traded i was down to 101 bear bills and my Milk Carton was gone, i quickly looked in her inventory and it was there! Is there a scam for this? kaelynmarch, did she talk to you during the trade? I got so tired of people asking me to trade and then talking constantly, that I blocked trades for now.
Something I really like is that you can attach something in bear mail. So if you want to trade with friends, like the people we know from the blog, we can just send them the item in bear mail and they can send something back.

I have been in so many trades with people wanting to trade for rare items saying…
“It’s my siblings birthday”
“My mom said I can’t trade that but I want yours”
“My friend is in the hospital sick”
“My boyfriend got me that”
“I always wanted that”
It is so sad that there are so many manipulators and scammers! So PATHETIC! Anyways, whenever I get such a boo hoo story, I simply reply.. “So!.. trading is trading!” I don’t want to seem cold hearted, but why should I be soft hearted when they are willing to “lie, cheat and steal” to get what they want.
Also,Beware of these scams….
*Many have clicked on me saying email me an item and I will email you the one you want. Don’t do this unless it is someones you really trust, cause chances are, they aren’t going to email you back with the item you wanted. So you are out an item and they are up one.
*Another one, people will say… Do you want tan bears (or any bear(s)) for free?? Then they will say, email me and I will tell you what to do. Well, I know I read it somewhere, that they want your password to steal your stuff.
*Lastly, don’t use your bear boutique credits on something someone else wants (especially when they tell you if you buy it for them, they will give you a rare item or whatever you wanted from their inventory). It’s hard enough to get these credits, so don’t waste them cause somebody suckered you!
